It performs as intended. That’s the short version. But there are a few things you need to know before we talk about the whole thing, starting with the size I’m wearing, and why I went smaller than usual.
I’m in a small here. I typically wear medium. But I do like a rash guard that compresses the body, so I sized down on purpose. If that’s not your thing, go with your regular size, you’ll get a little more room and the fit will be more relaxed. Either way, this shirt handles it. The stretch is impressive. You can see it in the arms, across the chest, through the shoulders. It moves with you rather than against you. This is a men’s short sleeve rash guard built from a 95% polyester, 5% spandex blend. The spandex is what gives it that stretch I keep coming back to, it’s not a rigid performance shirt, it moves. The fit is slim, the neckline is a crew neck, and it’s a pull-on with no zipper or buttons to deal with. The compression works as advertised. That’s the thing about a rash guard, until you put one on, it’s easy to underestimate how much the fabric matters. This one compresses the body without squeezing. It comes in on the arms just enough to feel secure during movement without restricting anything. Look at all that stretch, it gives in every direction, and it snaps back. That’s the spandex doing its job.
For surfers specifically, this is definitely what you’d want to get. The purpose is dual: sun protection, yes, but also blocking board rash. A flimsier shirt won’t do that job as well. Heavier When Wet
