Watch Our Review

At 296 g and USB-C rechargeable, the Flatson is the first multi-effects guitar pedal I’ve used that genuinely belongs in a gig bag, not a road case. Sixty effects, 20 amp models, and a battery that cuts the power cable entirely: that’s the pitch, and it holds up.

Quick Verdict

I’ve used pedals before, but not like this one. Unplug the USB-C and it still runs off its own battery, so with the matching Flatson speaker I was completely wireless except for the guitar cable. That’s the part that sold me.

Buy if you:

  • Want amp tones and effects without a bulky pedalboard
  • Gig in dark rooms and need to read your presets fast
  • Record straight to your phone over USB-C for YouTube or socials
  • Practice on the go and hate hunting for a wall outlet

The Multi-Effects Guitar Pedal That Cuts the Cord

Pair it with the little Flatson portable speaker, which is also USB-C rechargeable, and I can literally be completely wireless. Obviously I’m still plugged into my guitar. But no chasing an outlet for power. That’s a really nice thing to have.

What’s Actually On The Box

It’s metal, and so are the press pedal buttons. Four of them, labeled 1-2-3-4 or A-B-C-D, with a clear indicator showing where you’re at. In and out jacks on the sides: out runs to the Flatson speaker, in comes straight from the guitar. The USB-C port on the front handles both charging and the app connection.

Inside there’s a stack of cabs already loaded, and you can load your own too. If you’ve got amp or cab files for your favorite artist’s rig, you can drop those in and get pretty close to that same tone. It comes with a free app, and there’s a manual that explains all of it very, very well. That manual matters here, because this thing does a lot more than just press a button and change the sound.

Four Presets, Four Different Sounds

I built all four presets myself: A is warm and reverb-heavy for clean fingerpicking, B piles on more reverb for ambient stuff, C strips the reverb and dials in a crunchy edge for rhythm work, and D goes full-on for lead. Swapping between them mid-song is a single foot tap, no menus, no delay, just the next sound.

To be fair, I was playing through a really little amp during the demo, so the sound coming out of the mic isn’t the full picture. But bypassing the pedal shows you the difference instantly. Off the pedal, my guitar is practically nothing, just natural tone, very little color. Back on, and it comes alive. Going into the app I can see the changes, jump into effects, add a noise gate, swap amps, and once I’m happy I hit save and the display confirms it’s locked in.

The Manual Is A Step You Can’t Skip

This thing does a lot more than press a button and change the sound, and that’s the catch. There’s real depth here between the app, the cab loading, and the effects chain, so if you’re the type who tosses the manual in a drawer, you’ll fight this pedal instead of enjoying it. I said it’s so easy to preset, and it is, but “easy” arrives after you understand what each module does. The manual explains it very well, so read it first. Skip that step and the learning curve is where your frustration lives, not the hardware.

Who This Pedal Is Really For

The colored A/B/C/D buttons are the clearest signal of who this pedal is built for: someone playing on a dark stage, where squinting at a tiny number label in the middle of a song is not an option. If that’s you, gigging, recording phone clips, or practicing somewhere without a spare outlet, this is aimed directly at your situation.

The 6-hour battery and 296 g weight make it a travel piece. Once you’re done setting a preset, you can unplug and all of those stay within the memory bank, which keeps your sounds ready without needing an outlet. Sit down at a coffee shop, on a couch, in the back of a van, and you’ve got your sounds ready with no outlet anywhere in sight.

Versus A Full Pedalboard

A traditional pedalboard wins on pure feel and per-pedal control, and it always will. If you love tweaking one dedicated reverb knob, individual stomps give you that tactile thing this can’t. But you’re carrying weight, chasing power strips, and spending real money for that setup. This Flatson pedal folds 60 effects and 20 amp models into one 296 g box that runs off a battery. For portability and getting a lot of tones fast, it’s not close. The board only pulls ahead if you never leave your room.

My Advice Before You Set It Up

Charge it fully, download the free app, and read the manual before you try to be clever. That order matters. The noise gate is a nice surprise worth turning on early, by the way. I don’t have really high-quality cables here and the noise gate is dampening a lot of that noise completely, so if your cables are cheap, that feature earns its spot. Build your four presets, save each one, then unplug and test them off power to confirm they held. They will. That’s the whole point.

Pros

  • Completely wireless for power when paired with the Flatson speaker
  • 60 effects and 20 amp models in a 296 g metal body
  • Colored A/B/C/D buttons are easy to read in dark venues
  • Custom cab loading plus a free, easy-to-use app
  • Noise gate works incredibly well, even with cheap cables
  • Presets stay in the memory bank after you unplug

Cons

  • Does a lot more than press-a-button, so you really need the manual
  • Best sound needs a proper amp or speaker, not a tiny one
  • Deep tweaking leans on the app rather than the pedal alone

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the pedal work without being plugged into power?

Yes. It’s USB-C rechargeable and runs off its own battery, so it works with the cable unplugged. Paired with the Flatson portable speaker, the only thing tethering you is the guitar cable itself.

How long does the battery last?

Up to 6 hours on a charge. That’s enough for a practice session, a set, or a whole afternoon of recording clips without hunting for an outlet.

Do I need the app to use it?

No, but it unlocks the good stuff. You can press the buttons and play right away, but the free app is where you dig into effects, swap amps, add a noise gate, and load custom cabs. Once a preset is saved, it lives in the memory bank whether the app is connected or not.

Can I load my own amp or cab tones?

Yes. If you have amp or cab files for a specific rig, you can load them in and get close to that tone. There’s also a stack of cabs already preset, so you’re not starting from scratch.

How many presets can I save?

You’ve got the four A/B/C/D buttons for fast foot switching between saved sounds. Save a setting, hit the button, and swap tones on the fly. Everything you save stays in memory after you unplug.

Is it good for recording to my phone?

Yes. The USB-C connection lets you record straight to a mobile device, which is handy for capturing clips for YouTube or socials without a big interface setup. Monitor through the output while you track.

Will it help with noisy or cheap cables?

It helped in my case. I don’t have high-quality cables and the built-in noise gate dampened a lot of that noise completely. Turn it on early if hum or hiss is bugging you.

Is it big enough to use on stage floors?

It’s built for it. The buttons are metal and easy to press with your foot, and the colored indicators make it easy to see which preset you’re on in a dark room where numbers get lost. It normally lives on the ground.

Loses half a star only because the depth demands the manual and the app to get everything out of it. The metal build, the 6-hour wireless battery, and the colored presets are what make it worth grabbing. Deeper on-pedal editing without leaning on the phone would push this to a five.
