Quick Verdict

The insert slid in on the first try, which almost never happens with these beds. Waterproof layer, anti-slip bottom, and the 35×22 fits perfectly at the foot of the bed. We’re obsessed with this one.

Buy if you:

  • have tile or hardwood and a dog that slips and slides
  • want a removable insert you can pull and wash easily
  • have a pup prone to accidents and need a waterproof layer
  • want a crate bed that doubles as a standalone bed by your bed

My Dog Is Super Spoiled And Needs A Bed In Every Room

Close-up of gray plush dog crate bed fabric showing texture detail and stitching

Walter needs a bed in every room I’m in, so he can be nice and comfortable. That’s just the reality of living with a spoiled French bulldog. This waterproof plush crate bed was sent for my review, and we put it together on camera for the very first time. No staging, no second take. The version I got is 35 in by 22, and it comes in different sizes and different colors, including a really cool pink one.

What sold me before Walter even touched it was the cleaning side of things. A removable insert, a waterproof layer, and a zipper that doesn’t fight you. That’s the whole pitch, and for once the pitch held up in real use.

What’s In The Tiny Little Box

This surprisingly came in a tiny little box, because the bed ships nice and compressed. The plush top, the waterproof insert, and the outer cover all pack down to almost nothing. Here’s what you’re working with once it’s out.

The bottom is where it earns points. That side has all the anti-slip little bubbles on it, which is really great because I have tile flooring. Walter’s not going to be slipping and sliding around the room when he flops down. If you’ve got tile or hardwood, you already know that struggle.

Setting It Up Was Nice And Easy

The whole setup took one shot, which threw me off because it usually doesn’t. You always want to be careful when you’re opening these compressed beds. The trick is you need it to pop up, but you don’t want to puncture the mattress. So I started from a corner, let the air in, and let it puff up on its own instead of slicing into it blind.

I do love when these dog beds have the insert like this, because then you can take that off and wash it nice and easily. The insert itself is nice and thick. Sliding it into the cover is usually the part where I say “let’s come back to this” because they’re hard to get in. Not this time. I slid it in, the instructions said to fluff up the inside a little, and then the zipper closed without a fight. Wow, that was nice and easy. That’s a rare sentence for me with these things.

The Waterproof Layer Is The Whole Point

The waterproof insert is the reason to pick this over a plain plush bed. If your dog has any kind of accident, it’s not going to go through to the padding underneath. That’s the line between wiping something down and tossing the whole bed in the trash a month later.

Two layers of defense is the smart part of the design. The plush cover zips off and goes in the wash for shedding and surface mess. The waterproof insert catches anything that soaks through. For a dog prone to accidents, or one that sheds like it’s a full-time job, that combo is what keeps the bed from holding odors. Tired of that worn-out, smelly dog bed feeling? This is built for exactly that problem.

Open It Wrong And You’ll Puncture The Pad

The one moment of hesitation was the unboxing. Because the bed comes so compressed, I almost reached for scissors. I said it on camera, I’m almost thinking I’m going to have to cut this because I don’t see how else this is going to come out. That instinct is the trap. Cut blind into a vacuum-packed bed and you can slice the mattress.

What worked instead was going from a corner and letting the air do the work. It puffs up on its own once you get it started. So heads up, when yours arrives, resist the scissors and pry from an edge. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s the one step where people are going to wreck a brand new bed by rushing.

Who This Bed Is For

If you’ve got a senior dog, a puppy still working on bladder control, or a heavy shedder, this bed is built for your specific problem. The two-layer system, washable plush cover off the zipper, waterproof insert underneath, means a 3 a.m. accident is a wipe-down, not a trash run.

It’s also for anyone with slick floors. The anti-slip bubbles on the bottom kept it planted on my tile, so the bed doesn’t go skating across the room when the dog jumps on. And the 35×22 turned out to be kind of perfect at the foot of my bed, because Walter likes to lay on us at night. This gives him his own spot right there. Maybe he’ll lay like this instead of all over me. The crate-bed framing is real, but it works just as well as a standalone bed in the bedroom or living room.

Versus A Plain Plush Bed Or A Crate Pad

Plain plush beds soak through on the first accident and hold odor for good. Thin crate pads clean easily but give almost no cushion, rough on older joints. This bed splits that difference: the plush top is soft enough that Walter sank right in, the waterproof insert means liquid stops before it hits the padding, and the zipper cover pulls off and goes straight in the wash.

Where a plain bed wins: zero fluffing, zero inserts to wrestle. If you never deal with accidents and your dog doesn’t shed much, a one-piece bed is simpler. But for real-life messes, the layered build is the better bet.

A Few Tips Before You Set It Up

Measure your crate before you order. The 35×22 fit my space, but sizes vary, so match the listing to your crate’s interior instead of guessing. Open it from a corner and let it expand on its own, no scissors. Once the insert is in, fluff the inside before you zip it, like the instructions say, so the bed sits even and full instead of lumpy. And if you want the pink one or a bigger size, check the size and color options on the listing before you add to cart.

Pros

  • Removable waterproof insert plus washable plush cover, so messes wipe and wash instead of ruining the bed
  • Anti-slip bubble bottom kept it planted on tile flooring
  • Insert slid into the cover in one shot, no fighting with it
  • Zipper closed nice and easy
  • Ships compressed in a compact box and the 35×22 fits at the foot of a bed
  • Comes in different sizes and colors, including a pink option

Cons

  • The compressed packaging tempts you to cut it open, which risks puncturing the mattress
  • You have to fluff and re-insert the pad, so it’s not a grab-and-drop single piece
  • Sizes vary, so you need to measure your crate first instead of assuming the 35×22 fits

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the whole bed machine washable or just the cover?

The plush cover comes off via the zipper and washes easily, and the insert is the waterproof layer underneath. That split is the main selling point, since you can clean the surface without soaking the padding. Always check the care tag for wash temperature before you toss it in.

What dog size does the 35×22 fit?

The 35×22 suits small to medium dogs comfortably and worked great for a French bulldog. It also comes in other sizes, so larger breeds should size up. Measure your dog stretched out and your crate interior before picking a size.

Does it actually fit inside a crate?

Yes, it’s designed as a crate bed but works just as well standalone. The catch is crate dimensions vary, so match the bed size to your crate’s interior measurements rather than the listed dog weight alone. I used mine as a standalone bed at the foot of my bed.

Will the waterproof layer hold up to a real accident?

That’s the whole reason the two-layer design exists. Liquid hits the plush cover, the waterproof insert stops it from soaking into the padding, and you’re cleaning a cover in the washing machine instead of replacing a ruined bed. Wipe the insert down promptly and the odor doesn’t get a foothold.

How do I get it out of the box without wrecking it?

Pry it open from a corner and let the air in slowly instead of cutting into it. It ships vacuum-compressed, so blind scissors can slice the mattress. Once it starts taking in air it puffs up on its own.

Does it slide around on hard floors?

No, the bottom has anti-slip bubble grips that held firm on my tile flooring. That keeps the bed in place when your dog jumps on or shifts around. If you’ve got tile, hardwood, or laminate, that grip matters more than you’d think.

Is it thick enough to be comfortable for an older dog?

The insert is nice and thick with a soft plush top, so it’s more cushioned than a thin crate pad. That makes it a better pick for senior dogs or dogs that like to sink in. It’s plush comfort with the cleaning practicality on top.

What colors and sizes can I choose from?

It comes in multiple sizes and several colors, including a pink option. Pick the size off your crate or dog measurements and the color to match your space. Check the live listing for the current size and color choices.
