Quick Verdict

It is time to update our old mattress — and this 14-inch king size memory foam mattress with six layers and a cooling nest cover delivered way more than we expected from something that arrived folded like a burrito in a box. It’s softer than the “medium firm” label suggests, so keep that in mind if you prefer a firmer feel. But for couples where one person tosses and turns all night? The motion isolation on this thing is fantastic.

Buy if you:

  • Sleep with a partner who tosses and turns — zero disturbance on the other side
  • Run hot at night and need real airflow, not just marketing claims
  • Want a thick, cloud-like feel that cradles your body
  • Need a king size that also comes in other sizes for your setup

We Finally Replaced Our Old Mattress — Here’s What Showed Up

We had been putting off replacing our mattress for way too long. So when this 14-inch king size memory foam mattress showed up at the door, I was pumped. Like, genuinely excited in a way I hadn’t been about a home purchase in a while. Then I looked at the box and thought — wait, there’s no way a king size mattress is in there.

But it was. And it was heavy. The thing was compressed so tight, wrapped in so many layers, that it was literally bent into the shape of the box. I had to carefully cut a slit just to get some air in without accidentally puncturing it. You’ve got to be careful with that step — this thing is just ready to pop the moment it gets any breathing room.

My dog had other plans for the unboxing too. Couldn’t wait to try it. Classic.

Once it started rising, I genuinely could not believe it. Watching a 14-inch mattress expand out of a box that size is one of those moments where you just stand there going “look at that.” And I did, a few times. Six Layers Is Not a Marketing Line — It’s Real

So once it was on the bed and we could look at it properly, here’s what this mattress is actually built from. Six different layers total. There’s a gel memory foam layer, an ocean memory foam layer, and a comfort zone support layer at the base. That last one is what gives the mattress its structural foundation.

Then on top — and this is the part I kept coming back to — there’s what they call the cooling nest cover. It’s a knit-style cover with visible breathable holes built right into it. That’s not just for looks. The whole point is airflow. We both run hot at night even with air conditioning running, so having that layer specifically designed to stop heat from trapping underneath us is a big deal.

The mattress is 14 inches thick. That’s the measurement they give, and standing next to it, you feel every inch of that. It’s thick. Like, noticeably, visually thick in a way that made me do a double-take when I looked at it on the bed frame.

It comes in different sizes too, not just king. So if you’re not in a king setup, you’re not locked out of this one.

That “Medium Firm” Label Needs a Conversation

Here’s the thing they call it medium firm. And I get why — on paper it probably sits in that range. But when I put my hand on it, and then laid on it, I’m just kind of feeling that it is softer than what I’m used to. It’s not squishy in a bad way. It’s more like a cloud situation. It really does kind of feel like it wants to cradle your body into it rather than push back.

That’s the gel memory foam and the cooling layer working together. They add softness. So if you’re someone who has slept on a firm mattress for years and you’re expecting that same resistance here — you want to keep that in mind going in. It’s a different feeling.

For me, it wasn’t a problem. The cloud feeling is there and it’s comfortable. But it’s a real thing to flag because “medium firm” means different things to different people, and this one runs soft.

Also — and this is non-negotiable — you need to leave it for 24 to 72 hours before sleeping on it. They say that on the mattress. And looking at how compressed it was in the box, and how long it may have been sitting like that before shipping, you really do want to give it the full time to expand and fill out properly. Don’t rush that step.

The Motion Isolation Test Nobody Actually Does Out Loud

So I was laying on one side of the mattress and moving around, and I looked at the other side. No movement. None. It didn’t say this anywhere on the listing that I could find, but it was right there in front of me — I’m moving over here and that side is completely still.

That’s a big deal for us. I’m definitely someone who tosses and turns. I’m up, I’m moving, I’m shifting. And if I’m doing that on one side of a king mattress, it’s really important that the other side isn’t registering any of that. Being able to toss and turn on my side and not disturb his sleep is definitely going to be key for how we use this.

Most reviews mention motion isolation as a spec. This is the first time I actually watched it happen in real time on my own mattress and thought — oh, that’s what that feels like. It’s a completely different thing than reading about it.

Hot Sleepers, Couples, and People Tired of Their Old Mattress

Let’s be direct about who this is for.

If you and your partner both run warm at night, the cooling nest cover and the breathable holes in the top layer are there for a reason. We sleep with air conditioning and we still both run a little sweaty. This mattress is specifically designed to address that. The airflow design on top is not decorative — it’s the whole point of that cover layer.

If one of you is a tosser-and-turner and the other needs stillness to sleep — this is the setup. The motion isolation we saw during the unboxing and initial test made it clear. Movement on one side does not transfer to the other.

If you’re someone who has been sleeping on an older mattress and you’ve just been tolerating it — you know who you are — this gives you a serious upgrade in thickness and layer variety without the kind of price tag that would make you feel bad about buying it. Check the current pricing on the listing.

Where it’s less of a fit: anyone who needs a genuinely firm surface. Back sleepers who want pushback are probably going to notice how soft this runs and feel like they’re sinking more than they want. That’s not a flaw. It’s just who this mattress is designed around.

How It Stacks Up Against a Traditional Memory Foam

Standard memory foam mattresses — the basic kind, usually three or four layers — don’t have a dedicated cooling surface layer. You get foam, maybe a layer of gel, and a basic cover. That’s it. They also tend to trap heat more because there’s no breathable channel built into the top.

This one has six layers, a cooling nest cover with perforations, and a dedicated comfort zone support base. That’s a meaningfully different construction. And at 14 inches, the thickness alone puts it in a different category from the standard rolled-up mattresses at this price point.

The trade-off is the softness. A basic firm memory foam will push back more. If you’re comparing this to something you’ve slept on that had that firmer feel, you’re going to notice the difference immediately. But if you’ve been sleeping on something old and beaten down, or something that ran too hot, this is a clear step up.

The motion isolation piece is also something most budget mattresses can’t compete with. That’s usually where you feel the difference most — when your partner shifts at 3am and you feel the whole bed move. That doesn’t happen here.

Things to Know Before You Order

Get help moving it. I cannot stress this enough. This is a king size mattress — heavy, compressed, and awkward to maneuver. I needed my husband to help get it on the bed. Don’t try to do this solo.

When you’re cutting it out of the packaging, go slow. Cut a small slit first to let air in. The mattress is under serious compression pressure and it wants to expand fast. A puncture here would be a very bad day. Small cuts, controlled release, then peel the plastic off once it’s on the surface you want it on.

Wait the full 24 to 72 hours. I know it looks ready right out of the box. It’s tempting. But we don’t know how long it was compressed in transit. Give it the time it needs to reach its full 14-inch thickness and settle into its proper shape before you sleep on it.

And if you’re on the fence about the firmness — the “medium firm” label is there, but know going in that this runs softer than that. If you’ve loved a cloud-like feel in hotel beds, you’re going to be right at home. If you need that firm push, you may want to keep looking.

One last thing: it’s dog approved. Walter made that very clear the second we had it on the floor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this mattress good for couples with different sleep styles?

Yes, the motion isolation on this mattress is strong. When I was moving around on one side, there was zero movement visible on the other side. If one of you tosses and turns and the other is a light sleeper, this setup is built for exactly that situation.

Is the “medium firm” rating accurate?

Not quite — it runs softer than medium firm. The gel memory foam and cooling cover layers add softness that makes it feel more like a cloud than a traditional medium firm. Keep that in mind if you prefer something with more pushback.

How long do you actually need to wait before sleeping on it?

The mattress says 24 to 72 hours. Given how compressed it arrives in the box, we’d suggest going closer to the full 72 if you can manage it. You want it fully expanded and settled before you put body weight on it for the first time.

Does the cooling cover actually work for hot sleepers?

We both run warm even with AC on, so this was a key thing for us. The cooling nest cover has visible breathable holes and is designed specifically for airflow. It’s not just a label — it’s a different surface material with an actual ventilation structure built into it.

Does it only come in king size?

No, it comes in other sizes. The one we tested is king, but the listing offers additional size options. Check the product page for what’s currently available and in stock.

Is it hard to unbox on your own?

For a king? You need help. It’s heavy, it’s compressed under a lot of pressure, and maneuvering it onto a bed frame solo is a real challenge. Have someone with you for the setup. The cutting process also needs to be done carefully — go slow with small slits so it doesn’t spring open unexpectedly.

4.3/5
Final Rating
Six layers, real cooling, zero motion transfer — this 14-inch king mattress delivers on the things that matter most for couples and hot sleepers. It runs softer than the “medium firm” tag suggests, so go in knowing that. But if you want to toss and turn without waking your partner and stop thinking about back sweat, this thing is fantastic. We’re pumped with how it turned out.
