Quick Verdict

I opened the 24" luggage sets softside option and said "look how deep this is" out loud, because I wasn’t expecting it. This Coolife softside luggage set skips the hard-shell dents, spins on 360 wheels, and puts a TSA lock on all three bags, including the carry-on, which is rare. The deep blue color sold me before I even unzipped it.

Buy if you:

  • Hate the dents a hard shell picks up after a couple of throws
  • Want deep, single-side interiors instead of two half-splits
  • Travel more than once a year and want all three sizes ready
  • Want a TSA lock on the carry-on, not just the big bag

The color stopped me before anything else

I opened the box and the deep blue stopped me cold before I even checked the wheels or zippers. That almost never happens. Every set I’ve looked at lately is hard shell in black or silver, so a softside Coolife luggage set in this color felt genuinely different on the doorstep, and it made me want to like the rest of it, which is either a great sign or a trap worth watching for.

Here’s why that matters to me. I don’t know about you, but after one or two uses on my hard shell, people just throw that suitcase around and you get those dents everywhere. You’re not going to get that with this. It’s not fabric exactly, it kind of feels like fabric, and it feels so easy to clean, which is definitely something I prefer.

What’s in the box, size by size

This is a three-piece softside set: a 20-inch carry-on, a 24-inch medium, and a 28-inch large, all nested together and opened for the first time on camera. Every single one has the same features, just scaled up or down. The material is upgraded 1800D water-repellent PU, the wheels are dual 360 spinners, and each bag carries a TSA-approved lock with the combination instructions included.

The interior is way deeper than I expected

“Oh, look how deep this is. This is super nice.” That was my reaction opening the 24-inch, and it’s the single biggest difference between this and every hard shell I’ve reviewed. When you open a hard shell, you normally get the two half-sides. Here, everything fits on one open side instead of being split, so the whole depth is usable. I was so shocked I said it out loud.

That single-side layout goes back to how our suitcases used to be, but this is very elevated from those. If you’re an overpacker like me, you’ll appreciate the adjustable straps that hold everything down while you pile it in, and the flap on the other side keeps it all in place. Inside I also found a mesh pocket, and the pockets are separated, so you can keep things a little more organized, which I am always for.

The wheels backed up the marketing. I gave them a quick spin test on each bag and those beautiful 360 wheels roll really, really well. When you’re running through the airport late, these aren’t going to snag. There are also little bumper guards on the sides so the fabric isn’t taking the hit when the bag gets knocked around. Two padded grab handles, one on top and one on the side, make it easy to haul the bag into a car or overhead bin.

The front pockets don’t go all the way down

The front zipper pockets are the one spot that tripped me up. I assumed they ran the full length of the bag, went to check, and no, they only go down to about the halfway point. I even caught myself mid-sentence realizing it. Not a dealbreaker, but if you were picturing a deep front compartment for shoes or a laptop, adjust your expectations.

To be fair, a bag this size is usually my checked bag, and I’ve never once opened a front pocket mid-trip. The padding and near-waterproof lining suggest it’s best for wet swimwear or muddy shoes, flat, compressible things. Just don’t plan a packing strategy around it.

Coolife 3-Piece Softside Luggage Set Review

Two details I hadn’t seen before

Coolife Luggage Sets 3 Piece Upgraded Softside Lightweight Spinner Luggage Set, Durable 1800D Suitcases with Dual Spinne

Hidden ID slot on the medium and carry-on: slides into the bag body instead of dangling from a tag. On the medium and the carry-on there’s a spot built into the bag where you put all your info, and you just slide it out. I’ve never seen one like that before. Normally it’s just a tag at the top, so having it tucked into the body of the bag is neat and a lot less likely to rip off in transit.

The other one is the TSA lock on the carry-on. It’s so rare to see TSA locks on a carry-on, but all three bags here have them. We love Coolife around here, and this is exactly the kind of thing they tend to include across the board.

Who this softside luggage set is for

Built for overpacers and flexible travelers who need three sizes without buying separate bags. If you’re a light traveler, the 20-inch carry-on alone will do the job, and it’s still deep. I’m not a light traveler, we just need more stuff all the time, so the 24 and 28 are where I’d live. Families juggling different trip lengths get the flexibility of grabbing the right size without buying separate bags.

If you’re specifically tired of hard shells getting dented and scuffed after a handful of trips, this is the alternative. The softside fabric shrugs off the throwing-around that dings a polycarbonate shell, and it wipes clean easily. Anyone shopping luggage sets softside instead of hardside is the exact person Coolife built this for.

Softside vs. the hard-shell sets everyone’s buying

Softside wins for me on two things: cleaning and dent resistance. Hardside luggage sets in polycarbonate look sleek in the store, but I’ve watched mine collect dents after one or two rough handlings, and there’s no fixing that. This softside set flexes and absorbs instead of denting, and it wipes down without much effort.

Where a hard shell still wins is crush protection. A rigid polycarbonate shell holds its shape when three heavier bags get stacked on top of it; this fabric will compress under that load. If you regularly check a camera body or duty-free bottles, hardside is the safer call. For everything else, clothes, shoes, gear that can take a little flex, the single-side interior here packs more usably than any split hard shell I’ve tested.

A few buying tips before you order

Set your TSA lock combination first thing, using the instructions that come tucked inside. It’s a two-minute job that’s easy to forget until you’re standing at the airport. And don’t count on the front pockets for bulky items, plan to pack them for flat things like a magazine, a charger, or those damp clothes on the way home.

The color range is the fun part. This deep blue is stunning, but it comes in so many colors, so pick whatever makes your bag easy to spot on the carousel. Roll the wheels the moment it arrives to make sure all four spin freely, and give the fabric a quick wipe test so you know how easy the cleanup is going to be.

Pros

  • Deep single-side interiors, noticeably roomier than two-sided hard shells
  • Softside fabric resists dents and wipes clean easily
  • Smooth 360 spinner wheels on all three bags, no snagging
  • TSA lock on every size, including the carry-on
  • Padded top and side grab handles, plus a hidden ID slot
  • Comes in a lot of colors, and the deep blue is gorgeous

Cons

  • Front zipper pockets only go about halfway down, not full length
  • Not the pick if you need a rigid shell for fragile, crushable items
  • Single-side layout takes adjusting to if you’re used to two-sided packing

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the carry-on airline size compliant?

The carry-on is the 20-inch bag in the set, which is the size most major airlines accept as cabin luggage. Always double-check your specific airline’s dimension limits before flying, since a few budget carriers are stricter than the standard.

Does the whole set expand for extra packing space?

The bags use adjustable interior straps and a full single-side depth rather than a zip-out expansion panel. If you’re an overpacker, the deep interior and straps give you more usable room than you’d expect, but plan around a fixed shell rather than expandable luggage sets that unzip an extra inch.

How do I set the TSA lock combination?

Each bag ships with printed instructions for setting your combination, and it takes about two minutes. Do it right when it arrives so you’re not fumbling with it at the airport.

Is softside luggage less durable than hardside?

Not necessarily, it just fails differently. This 1800D fabric flexes and absorbs impact instead of denting like a polycarbonate hard shell does, and it resists scuffs and water. Hardside gives more rigid crush protection, so the “better” choice depends on whether you check fragile items.

How easy is the fabric to clean?

Very easy, it wipes down without much effort, which is one of the main reasons I prefer it over hard shells. A damp cloth handles most airport grime, and the water-repellent coating helps the surface shrug off spills.

Do all three suitcases have spinner wheels?

Yes, all three bags have the dual 360 spinner wheels. I spin-tested each one and they roll smoothly with no snagging, even the small carry-on.

What colors does this set come in?

Lots of them. I reviewed the deep blue, which I’m obsessed with, but Coolife offers this set in a wide range of colors. Pick a bright one if you want it easy to spot on the baggage carousel.

Can I buy the carry-on separately instead of the full set?

This listing is the three-piece set of 20, 24, and 28-inch bags sold together. If you only ever fly with one bag, a standalone carry-on may suit you better, but the set is the better value if you travel for different trip lengths.

Does it come with a warranty?

Coolife typically backs its luggage with a warranty, though terms vary, so check the current coverage on the product page before you buy. Keep your order confirmation in case you ever need to make a claim on the wheels or zippers.
