My wife always makes fun of my elbows. They get dry, they crack, and no amount of nagging fixes it. So when Forskin sent over this beef tallow skincare set, the elbows were the first thing I went after. You can grab the set on Amazon right here if you want to skip ahead.

Quick Verdict

One swipe across a notoriously dry elbow and the cream soaked in without leaving my hands sticky, oily, or greasy. That’s the whole test for me, and this beef tallow skincare set passed it. The citrus scent on both the cream and the SPF 30 sunscreen was a real surprise, and I liked it.

Buy if you:

  • Have chronically dry elbows, knees, or knuckles
  • Hate creams that leave your hands greasy
  • Live somewhere sunny and want a mineral tallow sunscreen
  • Prefer natural, chemical-free skincare over multi-step routines

How Beef Tallow Skincare Set Fixed My Rough Elbows

Macro close-up of beef tallow salve in a glass jar with warm golden texture and shallow focus

I love beef tallow. I’m already super familiar with it as a hydrating cream, so I had a decent idea of what I was walking into. What I wasn’t ready for was the second product in the pack, a mineral tallow sunscreen, which is something I’d never tried before. Two products, one box, and I tested both on camera the first time I opened them.

What’s In The Box: Cream Plus SPF 30

The set is two things: a whipped beef tallow cream and a mineral tallow sunscreen rated SPF 30. The cream is a creamy, whipped tallow base meant for all-over use. The sunscreen is tallow-based too, and it carries vitamin E plus zinc for the actual sun protection.

The cream jar is the rare skincare packaging that doesn’t look embarrassing on a bathroom shelf, clean label, solid lid, nothing fussy. Here’s the spec rundown before I get into how it felt on skin.

The Elbow Test: The Proof Is In The Tallow

The cream soaked into my dry elbow the moment I rubbed it in. My skin was extremely dry going in, and you could see it, the elbow looked rough. After one application it looked hydrated, and the proof is in the tallow. It goes on really, really easy.

Here’s the part I care about most. Usually the thing I really hate is my hands after applying a cream. I need to clean them right away because they feel coated. With this, my hands just felt hydrated, not sticky, not oily, not greasy. I love that. That’s rare.

And the scent caught me off guard. It smells citrusy, which is a first for beef tallow in my experience. Most tallow is odorless or a little meaty. This one has a light citrus scent that I actually liked. So the cream passes the test, easy.

The other thing working in the cream’s favor: it’s the only product in my bathroom I can legitimately put on my face, my elbows, and my knuckles without switching jars. That’s one fewer purchase to justify.

The Sunscreen Is Very Liquidy (And I Made A Mess)

The mineral tallow sunscreen is way runnier than I expected, and I made a little bit of a mess opening it. My fingers were still a bit full of tallow from the cream, which didn’t help, but the SPF itself is very liquidy. That’s the one real gotcha here. Squeeze gently or you’ll get more than you wanted.

My worry going in was the zinc. Usually when I see zinc in a product I wonder if it’s going to be really cakey, really thick to apply, and leave you looking chalky white. This one didn’t do that. It went on, it wasn’t extremely greasy, and it didn’t look too white on my skin once I rubbed it in.

It also felt like it was hydrating my skin while it protected it, which is a nice bonus for a sunscreen. And that same light citrus scent is in the sunscreen too. My wife is always after me to reapply, and I usually don’t like the smell of the stuff she sprays on me. This little scent they add is fantastic. I love it.

Who This Set Is Actually For

This is for the guy with rough, dry spots who is tired of creams that leave a film on his hands. If your elbows and knuckles crack in dry weather, this is the kind of product that fixes that in one pass. I live in the Caribbean, so the SPF 30 in the pack is going to come in handy every single day for me.

It’s also for people who want to simplify. One cream you can use on your face, hands, elbows, and knees, plus a sunscreen, means you’re not juggling five products. If you already love a light natural scent, the citrus note is a plus. If you want zero fragrance at all, that’s worth knowing before you buy.

Tallow Cream vs Sunscreen: Which One Wins

The cream is the star of this set. It’s the product I’m going to reach for daily, and it does the heavy lifting on dry skin. The sunscreen is useful, especially where I live, but the runny formula and the messy opening keep it a step behind the cream.

Buy the set for the cream and treat the sunscreen as a bonus. The SPF earns its place, no chalk, no cake, genuinely wearable, but if Forskin sold the cream alone I’d buy it that way. Living in the Caribbean means I don’t have the luxury of skipping the SPF, so the bundle works for me.

Buying Advice: Squeeze The Sunscreen Slow

Open the sunscreen over a sink or a towel and squeeze it slowly. It’s very liquidy, and the first press caught me out. A little goes a long way. For the cream, a small scoop is plenty since it melts in fast and you don’t want to over-apply and end up feeling coated.

Work it into the driest spots first, elbows and knuckles, while your skin still has the most to soak up. That’s where you’ll see the biggest difference immediately.

Pros

  • Cream soaks into dry elbows fast and leaves skin hydrated, not greasy
  • Doesn’t leave your hands sticky or oily after applying
  • Light citrus scent on both products, a nice surprise for tallow
  • Sunscreen doesn’t go cakey, chalky, or too white despite the zinc
  • One cream covers face, hands, elbows, knees, and knuckles

Cons

  • Sunscreen is very liquidy and made a mess when I opened it
  • Any added scent, even a light one, won’t suit fragrance-free fans

What we’d improve

Two things the next batch could tighten up:

  • The sunscreen viscosity, it’s runny enough that the first squeeze made a mess. A slightly thicker formula or a controlled-flow cap would fix it.
  • An unscented option, the citrus scent is great, but offering a fragrance-free version would open it up to sensitive-skin buyers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the beef tallow cream leave your skin greasy?

No. After rubbing it into my elbows and hands, my skin felt hydrated but not sticky, oily, or greasy. That’s the part I care about most, since most creams leave a film that makes me want to wash my hands right away.

What SPF is the tallow sunscreen?

It’s SPF 30. It’s a mineral sunscreen using zinc plus vitamin E, and it’s tallow-based like the cream.

Does the zinc sunscreen leave a white cast?

Barely. I expected it to go white because of the zinc, but once I rubbed it in it didn’t look too white on my skin. It also wasn’t cakey or chalky, which is my usual complaint with zinc sunscreens.

What does the beef tallow smell like?

Both products have a light citrus scent, which surprised me since most tallow is odorless or a bit meaty. I liked it, and it’s much nicer than the sunscreen smell I’m used to.

Can I use the tallow cream on my face?

Yes. You can use this kind of beef tallow all over, including your face, along with dry knuckles, knees, and elbows. It’s a multipurpose cream, so one jar covers a lot of ground.

Is the sunscreen easy to apply?

The formula spreads easily but it’s very liquidy, so it can get messy on the way out of the tube. Open it slowly over a sink and use a small amount, because a little goes a long way.

Do I need both products or just the cream?

Just the cream if you only want daily hydration, since it’s the standout of the set. Add the sunscreen if you spend a lot of time outdoors, because it protects without the cakey feel a lot of mineral sunscreens have.

How much should I use per application?

Beef tallow jar on a bathroom vanity shelf surrounded by skincare accessories and natural light

A small scoop of cream is plenty since it melts in fast, and a small squeeze of sunscreen covers a lot given how liquidy it is. Over-applying the cream is the main way to end up feeling coated, so start light.

Loses half a star for the runny sunscreen that made a mess opening it. The cream itself is close to perfect for dry elbows and doesn’t leave your hands greasy. Skip it if you want zero fragrance, and a thicker sunscreen formula would push the whole set to a five.
