Watch Our Review

Our last unit pushed out 26 lb of ice every 24 hours. This 450 lb commercial ice maker does that before most bars finish their morning prep. The storage basin alone holds up to 200 lb, more than a week’s worth of output from our old machine, just sitting there on standby.

Quick Verdict

450 lbs of ice a day, 200 lbs of storage, and a compressor that never stopped in mid-summer heat. This 450 lb commercial ice maker is loud, it’s heavy, and it’s one of the smartest machines we’ve had outside our door.

Buy if you:

  • Run a bar, café, or restaurant that keeps running out of ice mid-shift
  • Have outdoor space or a garage/shed where noise isn’t an issue
  • Want a stainless steel unit with a hardwired water inlet, not manual fill-ups
  • Want a machine that self-cleans and self-deices with one button

Always Running Out of Ice? Try a 450 lb Commercial Ice Maker

This isn’t a countertop nugget maker. It’s built for restaurants, bars, cafés, hotels, and, any household that goes through ice like it’s going out of style. We tested it outdoors, in the middle of summer, and it kept churning.

What’s Actually in the Box

It comes in two separate boxes, so don’t be alarmed when two big packages show up at your door. One box has the storage basin, the other has the machine head itself, and it’s a pretty heavy unit. It ships with the stainless steel film still on, which we left in place on camera so you could see exactly how it arrives. You do have to take the time to peel that film off before it looks like the gorgeous stainless steel machine in the photos.

Inside you get the water inlet hose, a nice little adapter that hooks straight up to the machine, drainage components, a starter water filter with an extra element included, and even the hardware to mount the filter to a wall. It comes with everything you need to start, no separate trip to the hardware store.

Ice Every 10 to 15 Minutes, Even in Peak Summer Heat

We tested this thing in the middle of summer, extremely hot conditions, and it kept turning out ice basically every 15 minutes, sometimes every 10 minutes depending on the outside temperature. The compressor kicks in and just keeps working. It’s a big unit and it’s a louder unit than most machines you’d have inside a home kitchen, which is exactly why we ran it outside instead.

The water inlet system is the detail that separates this from cheaper units: a sensor monitors the internal basin and cuts inflow the moment it’s full, then triggers a refill the instant it empties, no manual top-ups, no overflow risk, no babysitting. We ran it for hours in peak summer heat and never once touched the water supply ourselves.

There’s also a drainage outlet that kicks in every time the machine shuts off. It takes about 15 to 20 seconds to drain the leftover still water sitting in the basin, which keeps the whole unit cleaner between uses instead of letting stagnant water sit there.

The One Thing You Have to Do Yourself First

The stainless steel film has to come off panel by panel before the machine looks anything like the marketing photos. It ships that way to protect the finish in transit, which makes sense, but it’s a step you can’t skip if you want the clean look right away. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s a chore you won’t expect until you’re standing there peeling plastic off a 22-inch stainless unit for ten minutes.

Who Actually Needs 450 Lbs of Ice a Day

This belongs in a garage, a shed, or a back-of-house corner, not next to your kitchen fridge. The obvious fit is bars and restaurants that run dry during a dinner rush, but seafood markets and high-volume cafés land squarely in its wheelhouse too. The cutoff is simpler than it sounds: if you’ve ever had to turn away a customer or kill a party because you ran out of ice, this machine pays for itself.

Setup Advice Before It Shows Up

Plan your location before the two boxes arrive. You need a water line in, a drainage outlet out, and ideally an outdoor or garage spot since this is a louder unit than a home appliance. The included wall-mount hardware for the filter means you should decide where that filter lives before you start hooking up hoses. And budget real time for unboxing. Between peeling the stainless film and getting the water inlet adapter properly seated, this isn’t a five-minute setup.

Pros

  • 450 lb of ice production per day with a 200 lb storage basin
  • Automatic water inlet with sensors, no manual fill-ups needed
  • One-button auto clean and deicing cycle on the control panel
  • Comes with the water filter, hoses, scoop, and wall-mount hardware included
  • Kept producing ice every 10-15 minutes even in extreme summer heat

Cons

  • Louder than a typical home appliance, better suited outdoors or in a garage
  • Ships with protective stainless film you have to peel off yourself
  • Arrives in two heavy, separate boxes that require real setup time

What we’d improve

Two things that wouldn’t be hard to fix in a next version:

  • The stainless film removal, a pre-peeled tab or perforated strip would save the ten minutes of picking at plastic on a 22-inch unit.
  • Noise dampening, some additional insulation around the compressor housing would open this up to more indoor placements instead of forcing an outdoor-only setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

How loud is this commercial ice maker compared to a home fridge?

It’s noticeably louder than any ice maker built into a home fridge or freezer. We ran it outside specifically because the compressor noise isn’t something you’d want next to your kitchen table.

Does it need a dedicated water line, or can I fill it manually?

It’s built for a hardwired water inlet, not manual filling. The included adapter hooks the inlet hose to your water source, and internal sensors manage how much water it pulls in.

Can this replace a bagged-ice delivery service for a small bar?

For most small bars, yes. At 450 lb a day it outproduces what a lot of bagged-ice contracts deliver weekly, and the 200 lb storage bin means you’ve always got a buffer during a rush.

Is professional installation required?

It’s not strictly required, but you do need to run a water line and a drainage outlet, plus mount the included filter hardware to a wall. Anyone comfortable with basic plumbing hookups can manage it.

How often do I need to replace the water filter?

The machine ships with a starter filter and an extra filter element included, but the video doesn’t give a specific replacement interval. Check your water hardness and swap it when ice quality or flow starts to drop.

What happens to the machine when I turn it off overnight?

It automatically drains the leftover still water from the basin, which takes about 15 to 20 seconds, so you’re not leaving stagnant water sitting in the machine between shifts.

Does the self-cleaning cycle actually descale the machine, or just rinse it?

The control panel has a dedicated clean and descaling/deicing button that handles both, deicing the evaporator and running the clean cycle without you having to manually figure out the process.

Will this fit through a standard doorway during installation?

Uthfy ice maker installed on a restaurant kitchen counter amid prep stations and equipment during service

At 22 inches wide, it’s built as a space-saving footprint for commercial kitchens, and the video shows it arriving in two separate boxes to make moving it easier. Measure your doorway and path before it arrives since it’s a heavy, bulky unit.

The noise and film-peeling chore cost half a star; the automated sensors, 450-lb daily output, and self-cleaning cycle don’t. Skip it if you need something quiet enough for indoor kitchen placement. Better compressor insulation on a v2 and this is a five.
